Everything NHSH has built started as a gift from someone who loves this island
Land, houses, cash, securities, a Saturday with a caulk gun. All of it becomes homes that stay year-round forever.

For gifts over $1,000, a check saves us processing fees, so more goes to housing.
To give appreciated securities, email jmann@nhshousing.org or call (207) 653-8980.
Give land or a house
Our first home sits on land Charlie Pingree gave. Southern Harbor House began as Mary White's house. Five new homes are rising on 11.4 acres the Pingree family donated. Nancy and Jamie Davisson sold their house to NHSH below market and it now belongs to an island family.
If you own property on North Haven and want it to stay in the year-round community, there are several ways to do it: an outright gift, a bargain sale, a sale with a covenant to an islander we help find, or a bequest. Each has tax advantages we can walk through with your advisor.
Deed a house or land to NHSH. Full fair-market-value deduction; the property stays year-round forever.
Sell to NHSH below market. The discount is a charitable gift; you receive cash and a deduction.
Sell directly to an island household we help find, with an affordability covenant. NHSH handles the covenant.
Name NHSH in your will or trust. The simplest way to keep your island house in the community.
Volunteer
Volunteers renovated the Davisson house, built hundreds of window inserts, and staff the summer event every year. Skilled trades, painting, landscaping, hospitality, spreadsheets: all welcome.
- •Build window inserts at the next Weatherization Week
- •Paint, landscape and clean up at a renovation
- •Help run the summer event
- •Serve on a committee: finance, construction, tenant selection
The NHSH summer gathering
Every summer the whole island turns out to celebrate what we've built and fund what comes next. Food, music, a tour of the newest project, and the year's big ask.
Dates for the next event are announced in the spring. Check the News page or follow @nhshousing.
